Refunds of Accumulated Contributions

If a member terminates employment, they may leave their employee contributions at MERS or request a refund. Contributions left at MERS do not earn interest. A refund of contributions forfeits their years of service credit. Employer contrivutions are not refunded.

Refunded contributions may be rolled over to a qualified retirement account or sent directly to the member's bank account.

Refund Application Packet

The Refund Application Packet can be found below. The following documents are required to be submitted with the refund application. Processing will be delayed if all requirements are not attached to the application.

• Copy of Social Security card
• Copy of driver’s license or other government-issued ID
• For direct payment to the member, either a voided pre-printed check for an account in the member’s name or a bank-issued direct-deposit form
